Grime Scene
Release Date: 6/15/2018
Format: CD
List Price: (A15) $15.98

Boston saxophonist Tucker Antell's debut recording, he looks to the rich tradition of the tenor sax/B3 Organ groups and his many influences and experiences with Jazz, Blues and groove-infused music he's spent the last decade performing across New England. His virtuosity on the tenor saxophone is undeniable, while his passion for this particular fusion of Jazz & Blues comes across in a fun and honest way: singable melodies, danceable grooves, and stretched, creative improvisations, with a few twists and turns along the way. From the churning shuffle groove of "Grime Scene," to the Cubist reworking of Monk's "I Mean You," or the unfurling slippery funk of "Madness," Antell's music strikes a fine balance between the head and the soul. "Tucker Antell is one of a new breed of super musician." --Jerry Bergonzi. For

New Spaces
Release Date: 6/15/2018
Format: CD
List Price: (A15) $15.98

With an ongoing residency at Chicago's famed Fitzgerald's over the last 5 years, saxophonist Jarod Bufe took the opportunity to develop a body of new compositions while honing an intuitive group aesthetic with this band of topflight Chicago artists. Written during a period of life changes, Bufe's tunes convey all the emotions that implies, but through the creative rhythmic vitality generated by drummer Jon Deitemyer and bassist Matt Ulery, the feeling of hope and of the ongoing search is never lost. Guitarist Tim Stine's improvisatory approach with surprising, unfurling lines, beside his understated chordal accompanying of Bufe's tradition-rich lyricism, defines this very personal and conversational session.

Format: LP
List Price: (B44) $44.98

One of the hardest to find records on Strata East, and one of the best, a darkly-crafted session of pure beauty, one that lives up to all the best promise of the label! The tracks are long, the sound is bold, and the whole thing moves at a pace that none of the bigger jazz labels were matching at the time – the most righteous, most expressive side of jazz in the mid 70s! Alto player Shamek Farrah is at the lead of a unique group that features Norman Person on trumpet, Milton Suggs on bass, and Sonelius Smith on piano – plus lots of additional drums and percussion.

Situations
Release Date: 6/15/2018
Format: CD
List Price: (A17) $17.98

Nabatov's chamber music calls for a kind of string player only recently arrived, who is equally comfortable with complex scores and the challenges of improvising. These conditions are happily met by violist Gareth Lubbe and cellist Ben Davis, who participate brilliantly in Nabatov's compound vision - the dialectics of possibilities, the brace of the new in the embrace of the known. In a single piece, the trio moves from manic-chaotic through spiky school-of-Vienna pointillism to roller-coaster improvisation that thins out to something that might play blissfully in the background of an impossibly high-end Brazilian beach bar. Together Nabatov, Lubbe and Davis mark out fresh and delightful terrain, whether it's taut reverie, ecstatic turmoil or zones and conditions that resist any kind of naming.

Oneness
Release Date: 6/15/2018
Format: CX
List Price: (A50) $50.98

(3-CD set) Triple CD deluxe edition represents five days of recordings in the studio. The front cover of this magnificent box depicts the Ouroboros, the serpent or snake eating its own tail. This image exists in many cultures throughout human history where it has come to represent unity, as in the meeting of two minds. Perelman and Shipp went to the studio for five days in a row with the idea to record and then to choose the best takes to make one CD. But when they listened to the playback they could not choose the best pieces. That's why they have decided to release this triple CD with the title Oneness.

Untold Story
Release Date: 6/15/2018
Format: CD
List Price: (A17) $17.98

Untold Story is a document of a musical partnership dating back to 2013. Drawing on live recordings of improvisations, it is clear that Poll and MacDonald are entirely comfortable with each other's musicality. There is an uncanny, performance second sense of what the other will do in the very moment of creation. This, in essence, is what makes the music on the album so engaging. Poll's vocal performance is part of a rich trope in much twentieth and twenty-first century art music and free jazz. At the same time, Alistair MacDonald's laptop transformations tap into contemporary.

Feud - Bette And Joan
Release Date: 6/1/2018
Format: CD
List Price: (A16) $16.98

(10% DISCOUNT THRU 6-22-18) La-La Land Records, Fox 21 Television Studios, FXP and 20th Century Fox TV Records present the world premiere CD release of renowned composer Mac Quayle (American Horror Story, Scream Queens, American Crime Story, Mr. Robot) original score to the acclaimed 2017 FX special limited series presentation of Feud - Bette And Joan, starring Jessica Lange, Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci. Feud - Bette And Joan was a revelation, a wildly entertaining chronicle of screen siren rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford and their volatile teaming on the set of Whatever Happened To Baby Jane. Drama, humor, tension, emotion and inspiration burst forth, all of it expertly captured, supported and unleashed by composer Mac Quayle's amazing score. A work that draws influences from classic Hollywood movie music - echoes of Herrmann, Goldsmith, Mancini and more and fashions all of it into an original musical tapestry that is as respectfully, gloriously retro as it is breathtakingly contemporary. This is a limited edition of 1500 units.

Three Loves Have I: Cha-cha-cha - Mambo - Guaguanco
Release Date: 6/15/2018
Format: LP
List Price: (B44) $44.98

While Tito Rodriguez played mambo on a par with the others, it was his voice that set him apart. Whether it's mambo, Latin twist, or sentimental ballads, Rodriguez rarely strayed far from authentic or progressive Latin. Indeed, no other performer epitomizes the Latin showman as well as the top vocal stylist, versatile musician, sophisticated arranger-composer, handsome bandleader, leader of the New York Latin scene. Tito Rodriguez' music is quintessential. Given the popularity of all three rhythms listed in the title, it's no surprise that Tito would think of them as his "loves" – especially since they'd all helped spur on new energy in Latin music! Originally released in 1957.

Movement
Release Date: 6/15/2018
Format: CD
List Price: (A15) $15.98

Known for his fiery, emotive drumming from the last decade of touring and recording with Sonny Rollins, Bobby Broom and Kurt Elling, Kobie Watkins was at the same time visualizing musical concepts for his own compositions and group. First explored on his 2009 solo debut, "Involved," Watkins' new formation was created from the inside out, born and cultivated from his travels and experiences and realized through his several year performing relationship with pianist Justin Nielsen and his creatively connected band mates. Though born and raised in Chicago and now based in North Carolina, the Grouptet was formed by happenstance in Idaho near the entrance to Yellowstone, where they were each brought in to teach. The remoteness allowed them to freely explore their own collective voice resulting in this collection of nine inspired originals, along with a slinky new arrangement of "Manteca."

Sensoria
Release Date: 6/15/2018
Format: CD
List Price: (A17) $17.98

The free improvisations of Watts, Williams, Owens, and Armstrong provide a mixture of intensity, subtlety, lushness, and beauty on Sensoria that will reward repeated listening. Following the critical acclaim of Bright Yellow With Bass (LEO 758), Sensoria is Heath Watts' third release on Leo Records and his first release with a quartet. These improvisations are simultaneously delicate and intense. They require deep listening, communication, empathy and selflessness. This was a leaderless session; each musician brought her or his experiences, methods and ideas to the summit, but each was willing to compromise instantaneously to make the improvisation stronger.

Live In Lisbon
Release Date: 6/15/2018
Format: CD
List Price: (A17) $17.98

Something foul is afoot. We're not sure what it is, but we know Z-Country Paradise doesn't like it. And we expect they plan to do something about it. Or maybe they're behind it. It's too soon to tell. Either way, something sinister surrounds the four men and one woman who comprise the populace of Z-Country. They observe us, but they are not us. 16 pages of photographs tell the story of this amazing live performance in Lisbon, Portugal. Z-Country is art punk, post punk, post art, bluesy here, a shuffle there, even a bit of high life jive. Any groove they get into is incidental. This is message with a music, some new horror with a hint of a happy ending.
